Items stackable up to 16, like eggs and ender pearls, give a signal strength of 2 so I would suggest extending it a another block 🙂

Mumbo, you really need to work on this. In a video, when you are using a non-stackable item, you really need to use a boat or a hoe, not a sword.

Now if only you could sort potions. You can at least have an automatic brewingstation that draws ingredients from your storage system, and have the potions fed through a single(unintertwined) chain into a double chest/trapped chest wall of potions you use, but no actual sorting can be done(yet). I wish something related to that would come in 1.9 or even 2.0(can you believe that 2.0 is even this close? So much for the 2.0 april fools jokes!).

Sorry to say, first thought, “cool, a way to sort unstackable items” then withing the first 5 seconds of the video, so right when I saw how small the contraption was I was like, “oh, right, silly me for not thinking of that before” honestly a really simple redstone invention, I think the big part was that I somehow thought that you would be able to sort unstackable items from each other only to realize that it was just sort them from stackable items.

Holding shift makes you crouch and if you’re flying when you do, you drop altitude. Now, I screwed around with the control settings and found that it wasn’t the key, but crouching that allows placing the block, so I suppose the question is, how do you allow that to work?

mumbo, why don’t you make another block replacer, because the old one is kind of efficient if you ask me, and atm I am in frustration trying to find a simple solution on a flush with the wall design…

Wait a minute. It seems like, you can use this design as a normal item filter as well, which enables you to have the output hopper facing downwards. I have to test that.

I should be going to bed, but I saw this and was like “WHAT THE WHAT!” I have made autosorters for years in my factions bases, and even made tutorials on them, but I have never been able to filter out specific non-stackable item filters! Sadly, after watching the video, it appears that it is not specific and you cant sort, say, diamond picks from diamond chest armor, but still. This is a good, simple design and I can find another use for it.

oh nice. that was actually useful. if you have an automatic sorting system but want to filter out non stackable items first. Because I don’t think they could be used in automatic sorting system right? if the hopper filter already contains a non-stackable item another won’t go through? or am I looking at this the wrong way?

Just implemented this in my skele farm to filter out the bows, armor, etc. before sorting bones and arrows. It works like a charm!

There is problem with this design if you put to many stackable and non stackable items into the system randomly there is a chance the torch can burn out and let stackable items into the non stackable chest. I did find a work around by changing out the torch with a sticky piston facing downwards then a red stone block under that. removing the lower single piece of red stone and the block it is on and lowering the block behind the repeater and putting red stone dust on that. This does mean the system will make some noise now but it will work as intended

So this works for sorting nonstackable items before the end of the sorting system, but it only works on “all” nonstackable items. Is there a version that can sort the nonstackable items? This seems like all or nothing. Is there a way to sort diamonds swords from diamond axes, etc?

Had to thumbs-down this because it’s not a non-stackable sorter, it’s a filter to separate all stackable items from non-stackable items.

This doesn’t work right for me. The hopper that is right before the non-stackable chest doesn’t put the non-stackables in the chest… it just stays in that hopper.

Con you make a contraption that sorts nonstakable items apart such as diamond swords from gold sowrds

A small improvement to the design: add another hopper below the one that gets locked, so it pulls items out (don’t place the locked one pointing sideways)!
Otherwise shulker boxes will be stuck in the locked hopper, causing one item to always remain inside – though they will be pushed out by the next unstackable item.

We need a nonstackable item sorting system that can disguised between items example enchant books

it doesn´t work at all -_- if you put more stacks into it it´s completely random

So I get the basic concept right? But how do I use this to burn my trash stone swords AAAND keep my armor drops? I keep ending up with a trash silo full of stones and occasionally a half decent armor drop. Would hate to miss the armor but at this point I’m about to scrap the silo and dispense all the unstacked drops.

It’s cool that this works but from a concept standpoint I don’t quite understand why the unstackable item hopper doesn’t end up sucking up stackable items when the input hopper in the middle contains both. Does the comparator only put out a signal based on what’s in slot 1 or something? I ask because I’d like to understand the mechanic rather than simply copying you

Why are non-stackables giving out a signal strenght of 3? Because there is that equation in Mumbo’s comparator video to count the signal strenght comparators give out when they’re detecting a certain amount of items in an inventory . And that doesn’t work for me. I might have messed up the math like 5 times in a row, but I think there is something else happening.

I mean, if for example youre sorting a gold farm’s drops, you could just sort out the gold ingots and the gold nuggets, then just have storage at the end for the swords…

But I guess its usefull for afk fish farms. Because if you want to have your books and saddles go into one set of chests, and have one set of storage at the end that just takes any other junk items like lilypads.

My biggest storage burden has become nonstackable items lately, so this is a great solution…I hope it still works in 1.14…

Can this work adjacent to a stackable item sorter, or does there need to be a space in between to prevent redstone crossover?

This actually helps me out a lot. My skeleton farm feeds right into my main storage area so as I kill them it I don’t have to transport my arrows and bones to it but it’s about 70 blocks away so I have to do several water drops to get there. It seems the new update is dropping a lot more useless bows so now I can put the filter about half way to my storage area and by using a dropper I can filter out the bows to a place to dispose of them automatically. Hope that makes sense. Thanks.

doesn’t work the Non-Stackable go down into the hopper but not into the chest

This doesn’t work in Bedrock edition, but there is an easy fix for that.

Place the comparator on the hopper to the left, then in a line out of that : dust, dust, red torch (down). Then next to that going back towards the hoppers : dust, repeater, block, red torch. Last torch will be turned off by default, allowing stackables to flow through the bottom hopper, while unstackables will enable it and items flow through the top hopper. (Opposite to the Java version, but sorted nonetheless.)

even after over 4 years, this is still the most compact non-stackable item filter I’ve found. good job, it fits perfectly where I wanted to put it.

how do you sort between different nonstakable items? like what if I want a different chest for swords and another for saddles? Also can enchanted books be sorted the same way even if they have different enchants? same with swords and other tools, will they be sorted together even if they have enchantments?

I mean, having an overflow chest on a regular item sorter works just fine for filtering out non-stackable items. I was hoping to be able to sort out specific stackable items (barring different nbt data).

I’m a few years late, but to whom it may concern, you can tile this with slight modifications. Tiling this is great for super fast filtering (using hopper minecarts) or if you are building a massive sorting system and have a massive amount of unstackables. This is a game changer for fishing farms, witch farms, raid farms, and complex sorting systems. I’m currently making Etho’s Nexus at 16x speed and it couldn’t be possible without a tileable version of this. Here’s what you have to do to tile it-

You break the redstone dust under the torch as well as the block under it. Then you place a downward facing sticky piston where the torch is, and then a redstone block under the sticky piston. Lastly, you want to break the block adjacent to the redstone block, and connect the repeater to the redstone block with some dust.

Also I saw another comment that this specific design I’m explaining is leak proof and that’s also true! The filter works faster than items can be sorted (for mumbo’s design the torch can burn out). If you have the extra resources, then it’s definitely worthwhile!

Ive been pulling my hair out for a week trying to find a proper sorting system for my gold farm. sticking a couple of these to redirect the swords, before the actual sorting system starts, is absolutely perfect and i finally have a working gold farm. Working great in 1.16

Timeless! I just used this in 1.16.3 to separate out the gold swords in my gold farm (20 large portals for spawning pigmen) so they can me melted into nuggets via a forge before they get sent to storage. A bit heavy on coal, but easier to mine coal than gold…Thanks!

Your filter has a serious problem, after 8 item unstackables the redstone torch breaks and if normal items pass after that, they get into the chest of the unstackables

Does anyone have a guess as to why mine would be too fast to work? If I add it to the end of the line it will fire and accept a nonstackable (allow it to drop down) but coming off a hopper pipe the comparator never picks up the item as it zooms by.

The hoppers take the gold swords too fast and they end up going into the stackable items chest. Anyone have any solutions?

Is anybody having problems getting the items to sort down to the bottom layer of chests? It works perfectly fine for the top layer but not the bottom one. Please help!

This flat doesnt work anymore sadface, doesnt lock the hoppers for some reason so it just lets all items through

Why a line of thee hoppers – wouldn’t two do (i.e. grad the signal from the input hopper)? What is the repeater for? …does this even still work these days with 1.16.5?

I have a problem with mine it works it’s just the stackable item goes in the right chest and the none stackable item goes down and doesn’t go in chest idk y 🥲

Sooooooo I made this in my test world to make sure I understood it but now that I’m trying to actually put it to use in my gold farm it’s just indiscriminately sending literally every single thing into my lava dispenser????????? Guess I’ll rebuild my entire sorting system from scratch again, oh well.

Would this work on a Skeleton farm? My goal is to filter out all the Bows and Armor from the Bones and Arrows. And by adding layers of more output chests would I be able to extend the storage?
