I’ve been seeing some comments from people claiming that using an octoballoon shield will protect against Lynel sniping and that if you open the Hylian Shield Chest without the space for it, it will still be available to buy at Cece’s Shop in Hateno Village. Let’s find out!

This second one is true in botw. The fact that the rare item ship in totk specifically detects whether you actually picked up the shield seems to be a deliberate patch of that behavior, as it’s a fairly well known exploit in the previous game, allowing the player to use the shield while letting the one in the chest to gain buffs over time.
